Release date, time and location of Season 2 Episode 8 of The Ancient Magus’ Bride

In this week’s episode of The Ancient Magician’s BrideHer fans got a deeper insight Philomelas (Maki Kawase) Life outside of college, and as far as tragedy goes, she seems to be on the cutting edge Chise (Atsumi Tanezaki).

Aside from her less-than-ideal life at home, Philomela’s ultimate goal seems unrelated to learning magic in college, but her true intentions are yet to be revealed.

While she disappeared from school to come home, Chise and the other students took courses to test their survival skills before a camping trip to Scotland.

• There is a flashback to young Rian and Philomela climbing a tree. Despite struggling at first, Rian eventually makes it up the tree too, which praises her climbing skills.
• The scene returns to the present, where the students in physical education class complete a rock climbing session.
• When Adolf enters physical education class, he discovers that Elias is secretly watching Chise in class, and realizes that the magician often does so.
• After being called home, viewers meet Alcyone. They are a large figure that manifests when Philomela summons them. It is unclear if they are humans, magical creatures, or familiars.
• Alcyone tells Philomela that they’ve heard that magicians and witches are sensitive to the scene of certain emotions, and they speculate that this is how Chise and Ruth could track down Philomela, even as she tried to hide.
• In class, Chise asks Isaac what bushcraft is. He says bushcraft is like camping in that it teaches skills needed to survive in the great outdoors without the use of magic.
• Chise and her friends are learning to cook in preparation for their upcoming camping trip to Scotland. She wonders if Elias will insist on coming too.
• The episode ends with the students being sent on a camping trip, where they attempt to apply the survival skills learned in class while a mysterious figure watches Chise from the forest.

Season 2, Episode 8, will be released on Crunchyroll on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 11:00 am ET. Episode 8 is titled Slow and Sure. II” and will have a running time of approx. 23 minutes.

I was neither right nor wrong in my predictions last week. Although Chise eventually ended up in a physical education class, she didn’t seem to have any more problems than anyone else. Even as we learned more about Philomela, it wasn’t enough to draw conclusions about her motivations.

• In next week’s preview, there appear to be monsters in the forest. I have a feeling most if not all will be hostile. I could see them attacking Chise and maybe even the whole class.
• Since Philomela hasn’t reappeared yet, I have a feeling she might be involved in those monster attacks in the forest somehow.
