After one of the worst performances in the history of his men’s basketball program – culminating in an overtime loss to Canada in the bronze medal game on Sunday – LeBron James has reportedly decided to return to the international league for the first time in over a decade.

The Athletic reported this on Monday that James, the NBA’s top scorer and three-time gold medalist, “is ready to commit to Paris 2024.”

The report also states that James has already called fellow greats Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant about joining. James has also reportedly spoken on the phone with All-NBA stars Jayson Tatum and Anthony Davis, as well as Draymond Green, while other top players such as Devin Booker, Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving and De’Aaron Fox have also “expressed interest.”

James has not played for the Dream Team since the 2012 London Olympics. At the Paris Games there are still five months until his 40th birthday. In recent years, after enjoying incredibly good health throughout his historic career, he’s finally faced some injury woes.

However, James apparently intends to make one more statement before retiring.

An American team that didn’t return a single player from previous Olympics failed three times in this World Cup, against Lithuania, eventual champions Germany and Canada, and was about as bad defensively as any team the U.S. had faced so far brought with them to a World Cup.

Although America often failed to live up to expectations at the World Cup and many of its stars chose not to compete in the event, it remained a powerhouse at the Olympics, winning the last four men’s tournaments.

Curry has not competed in Olympics while Durant has competed in three Olympics and was the MVP in Tokyo.
