Rishi Sunak Says His Greatest Weakness Is ‘Working Hard’

Rishi Sunak has indicated that his greatest weakness is “working hard” and trying to be “perfect”.

Attending a Conservative Party leadership call hosted by Conservative Home on Friday afternoon, candidates to replace Boris Johnson as prime minister were asked what their biggest weakness was.

“Most people know I have a reputation for working hard and getting the details across,” replied Sunak, the current front-runner.

“You have to be careful in these jobs that perfect isn’t the enemy of good, especially as you get older.”

He added, “What I’m constantly working on is finding the right balance between getting the detail, understanding everything and realizing that I know as much as I can and have done as much as I need to.”

When asked the same question, Liz Truss, the secretary of state, said she had a habit of being “excessively overzealous.”

“Sometimes I have to back off and try to do a little less,” she added.

Truss is hoping to unite the Brexiteers’ right wing behind him to take on Sunak in the final round of the competition.

She is in an all-out battle with Trade Secretary Penny Mordaunt to finish in the top two, with further Tory MP elections due next week.

Mordaunt said her weakness is her four Burmese cats. Kemi Badenoch said her jokes were people who took their jokes too seriously. And Tom Tugendhat, a former soldier, said he can “talk a little too much about the army”.

All five candidates are due to take part in a TV debate moderated by Channel 4 on Friday night at 7.30pm.
