Saudi Arabian organizers have released a special ticket for an upcoming match that could see long-time rivals Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi face off in the Middle East.
Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) face a top-flight team including players from Al Nassr and Al Hilal in a friendly in Riyadh on 19 January. Ronaldo, who was unveiled as an Al Nassr player earlier this month, could make his first appearance on Saudi soil in this game.
The Portuguese superstar, who is expected to earn $200m a year during his two-and-a-half year stay (until June 2025) in Saudi Arabia, is currently serving an FA broadcast ban.
Seeing Messi, Mbappe, Neymar and Ronaldo together on the pitch is a privilege in itself. However, the charity match organizers are going one step further to make it a night to remember for fans with big bags.
As noted by UD Almeria owner and General Entertainment Authority (GEA) chairman Turki Al-Sheikh, a special Beyond Imagination ticket has been put up for sale that could make the night unforgettable for fans.
According to the Khaleej Times, the special ticket would allow its holder to attend the opening ceremony, sit next to Al-Sheikh and meet Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar and Mbappe. In addition, they are allowed to enter both dressing rooms, attend the coronation ceremony, attend the gala lunch and click a picture with the winning team.
The bid for the ticket started at 250,000 euros (985,000 rials) but has now increased to 700,000 euros (2.7 million rials) after receiving 1.5 million requests. The call for entries will remain open until January 17, 11:30 p.m. KSA time. Proceeds go to a charity called Ehsan.
Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr coach Rudi Garcia is unhappy with the timing of the friendly with Messi’s PSG
Al-Nassr boss Rudi Garcia has questioned the timing of the upcoming friendly against PSG. Garcia conceded that the organizers should have been more careful in the placement of the game as Al Nassr has a game in the Saudi Pro League three days after the friendly.
“As Al Nassr manager, I cannot be satisfied with this game. For the development, to see PSG, to see the great Parisian players is indeed a good thing. But we have a league game three days later,” said Garcia (via ESPN]).
“In terms of planning, it could have been better thought out. But it’s not a big deal… We’re in the lead, we’re happy. It’s a difficult championship but we want to do it.”
Ronaldo, who is currently serving a national ban for slapping a phone out of the hand of an Everton fan in April 2022, could play in the friendly, Garcia confirmed.
“It (his debut) will not be with the Al-Nassr shirt. It will be a mixture of Al Hilal and Al Nassr.”
Messi’s arch-rivals will miss Saturday’s clash with Al Shabab (14 January) but is available for selection against Ettifaq eight days later
