Scarborough B&B has been voted Best B&B in the World by TripAdvisor for the third time
Toulson Courtin Scarborough, tops the list TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice “Best of the Best Hotels” in the B&Bs and Inns category.
The bed and breakfast is run by husband and wife team Angela and James Rusden, who took it over seven years ago.
It has a five-star rating on TripAdvisor with over 2,000 “Excellent” reviews.
Commenting on TripAdvisor’s recent announcement, James told The Press: “This is absolutely fantastic news.”
The co-owner attributed the success to what he and his wife offer their customers.
At £95 a night for a double, he said: “We’ve tried to convey that – we’re just your ordinary, everyday bed and breakfast.” We’re not the Ritz or the Savoy.
“If anyone comes to Scarborough they think it’s great for the money we’re offering.”
In some cases, hosts have gone to great lengths to help customers.
As an example, James gave a situation where a customer was driving from Scarborough to York and had a car accident on the way.
The co-owner said he shut down the tool and came to their aid.
“It’s about helping people,” he said.
“I have a car. I know the area. I can fix you.”
Another reason was simpler: the food.
“We do a fantastic cooked breakfast,” he said.
James said the bed and breakfast relies on homemade produce, which guests love.
Another reason for the success, according to James, is the location.
He praised Scarborough for its restaurants, cafes, music venues and proximity to places like Whitby and York.

Although the bed and breakfast is a household name on the internet, all bookings are taken organically.
It refrains from appearing on sites like Booking.com or Trivago, preferring to take all bookings through its own website or by phone — which James says kept ringing after news the bed and breakfast had lost its world-renowned status .
Since the news broke, James said several news outlets have covered the stories, including the national media.
“It’s fantastic for Scarborough,” he said.
After Toulson Court came Pousada Gaia Viva in Brazil and Yarra Gables in Australia.
In York, the No.1 By GuestHouse Hotel in Clifton was voted in the top 10 in a different category in TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Best of the Best Hotels award.
It placed ninth “Hottest New Hotels” in the world category.
