The next day, Simon questions the idea that Mr. Anderson had anything to do with her disappearance. However, Maddie breaks down why she thinks he’s one of the good guys. The show rewinds a bit, with an after class chat with Maddie and Mr. Anderson. He wakes her up in the middle of class and suggests that if she ever needs anything, he’ll be there. She says he knows nothing about her but tells a story about his alcoholic father.

What does Simon find in Mr. Anderson’s car?

The piece of Maddie’s phone case. Simon ransacks Mr. Anderson’s car and finds a lot of junk. He searches until he looks in the glove compartment and finds the piece of phone case he found and gave him.

Finally, the accident is explained from the start when Maddie calls Mr. Anderson after being involved in an accident on the way home. She tells him about the night Mr. Anderson saved her. This angers Simon which causes them to fight and she tells him she will solve the case on her own. Outside, Wally waits for them with a golf cart and distracts them for a few minutes.

During class, Nicole texts Simon to see if he found anything in Mr. Anderson’s car, and he says no. Moments later, her phone rings and a like appears on her photo of Maddie. She freaks out, texts Simon and leaves school, but Xavier lurks in the shadows. Then she goes to this upper area where she imagines the time she spent with Maddie. Next we see Xavier enter the room and scare her. Now she thinks she’s his next victim, but tries to convince her otherwise.

Simon confronts Mr. Anderson about the broken phone case, who says he didn’t turn it in because he doesn’t trust anyone in charge and the last thing he wants to do is question him. Next we see Rhonda and Maddie chatting about what had happened to her and the teacher she was close to. It causes Maddie to delve deep into some old photos and compare the classroom and it appears to be the same room. Finally she talks to Simon about what she found out.

Who crashed the car?

Maddie’s mother. After she ended the conversation, Maddie opened up to Simon to tell him who crashed the car. She called Mr. Anderson to help her with her mother, fearing they would take her and take the fall for the accident.

The end

While Maddie and Simon go for walks looking for evidence, Mr. Anderson seems angry on the phone. He says, “I shouldn’t have given Maddie the money.” And in the woods, Xavier, Nicole and Maddie’s mother found a footprint, while Simon and Maddie found a huge amount of cash in Mr. Anderson’s closet at school.
