Second man charged over Ballymena murder of Victor Hamilton is remanded

A second suspected killer has been remanded in custody and charged with murdering Ballymena man Victor Hamilton.

Appearing at Antrim Magistrates Court in Ballymena, Mario Menezes, 33, confirmed via video link from police custody that he understood the only charge alleging the murder of Mr Hamilton on July 26.

Mamadu Saido Djalo, 29, with an address in Springfield Crescent, west Belfast, was remanded in custody on Monday on the same charges.

A 23-year-old woman who was arrested during an investigation has been released on police bail.

Mr Hamilton (63) was found dead in the driveway of his home on Orkney Drive, Ballymena, just before 8am last Wednesday.

In court today, a PSNI detective sergeant stated that he knew the facts and circumstances of the death and believed he could connect Menezes to the murder.

Defense attorney James Hughes confirmed no request for bail today but asked that Menezes, of Portmore Street, Portadown, be remanded in custody for a week for a possible request.

Assistant District Judge Peter Prenter remanded Menezes until Aug. 25 and advised the defense to file a “statement motion” to hear the case earlier. Second man charged over Ballymena murder of Victor Hamilton is remanded
