North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Low Field Lane, Scaryingham, at 10.45pm last night (September 4) following reports of an accident.
A spokesman for the service said: “Police have contacted the fire service requesting our assistance with a single vehicle traffic collision involving a BMW which lost control and left the road and ended up in a ditch .”
“On arrival the driver of the vehicle had fled leaving two sheep in the vehicle, one in the back seat and two in the boot. The police were able to identify the sheep owner.”
“The fire department placed the sheep in the safe hands of a neighboring farmer who will look after the sheep overnight before reuniting them at home.”
“The crew removed the door using hydraulic cutters to release the sheep.
“The crew also used a thermal imaging camera to survey the area for possible injuries.”
