Sheng Ye emerged victorious WPT Prime Gold Coast Main Event on March 6th at The Star Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. He took home the grand prize worth U.S. dollar $253,843 in prize money along with that WPT Prime Trophy. He also received a prize package to play at the end of the season WPT World Championship at the Wynn Las Vegas in December.
Sydney Australia resident now holds U.S. dollar $380,789 in career earnings and this was his second tournament win after winning the World Series of Poker Circuit International event in November 2022, also held at the Star Gold Coast.
The $2,000 EUR Buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament had a prize pool worth U.S. dollar $1,493,899 thanks to three launch flights that attracted a total of 1,224 entries. The top 156 players all conceded at least U.S. dollar $1,164 prize money.
It was just 151 who returned on day two of the tournament and the field was downplayed to 16 ahead of the final day of competition on Monday. It took just over three hours of play to get to the final table when play resumed.
The final table took seven hours to crown a winner. The action started slowly with only three players falling during the first three hours of play, but the pace of eliminations accelerated over the next hour of play as three more players fell before the lunch break.
Ye was just 25,000 behind chip leader Ben Richardson and his 15.25 million stack at dinner break, but when heads-up play began he was leading with 18,875,000, giving him the advantage over Richardson’s 17.9 raised millions.
Ye won a big pot just minutes into the last game to further extend his lead to 25,675,000, and then it was only a matter of time before the inevitable end. Richardson managed to double down three times while trying to survive with a short stack, but wasn’t so lucky when he moved all-in for the fourth time.
In the final hand, Ye went all-in preflop to open the action with Q2
in the hole, and Richardson had called all-in with A for his last 7 million
