Shock as the quad speeds past Newton Aycliffe’s children

The incident happened on July 30 on St Oswalds Walk in Newton Aycliffe and police are now appealing for further information from the public.

The footage shows a “reckless” driver on a quad bike speeding past a family sitting outside in the sun while young children play nearby.

While one of the children is playing, the quad narrowly misses him before he jumps to safety.

Police believe the driver was an adult carrying two children.

The driver then drove illegally on sidewalks and lawns where “families would have been traveling.”

A spokesman for Durham County Council Neighborhood Wardens said: “Thankfully one of the young children escaped to a safe location, otherwise there could have been a completely different outcome.”

“The location where they endangered lives is a built-up housing estate close to a children’s park and supported living accommodation.”
