Shreveport Woman Arrested for Leaving Child Inside Hot Car

Shreveport Police have arrested a woman charged with child abandonment after she allegedly left a young child unattended in a vehicle. Officers found the 6-year-old child in the locked car in a parking garage on Block 400 of Clyde Fant Parkway with all windows closed and the engine not running.

Police officers notified the Shreveport Fire Department, who took the child to a local hospital for medical treatment.

After the investigation, officers determined that Kit Yu was the child’s guardian and was reportedly responsible for leaving the child unattended in the vehicle. She was subsequently arrested by Shreveport Police and charged with deserting children.

The Shreveport Police Department is reminding citizens that even on “mild” days, vehicle temperatures can reach life-threatening levels very quickly. Even a slightly open window does not help. Police ask that you never leave children or pets unattended in a locked vehicle, even for a short time.

The 6-year-old is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. The child was returned to the care of a family member.
