Sidney review – a brilliant and captivating look at a revolutionary man

Sydney is a finely tuned documentary that should be watched for generations to come.

Apple TV+ documentary Sidney will be released on September 23, 2022.

We have a documentation of Apple TV+ in Sydney. The film follows the life of actor, filmmaker and activist Sidney Poitier. Is the new documentary worth watching? I will share my thoughts and let you know.

If you’re a fan of movies, you know who Sidney Poitier is and his incredible work in the world of movies. Was it his acting? In the Heat of the Night or the director’s chair uptown saturday night, Poitier was an immensely talented individual who stood out from the rest of the crowd. However, this documentary showed early on the struggle he faced to make it into the world of show business.

Speaking of battle, this is where filmmaker Reginald Hudlin punches out of the ballpark from the moment the film begins. It started with Poitier talking about these obstacles. As we hear from so many people throughout the documentary, you’ll hear these stories from Poitiers mouths, which allows the stories to stand on their own. You can tell Poitier worked on film because he’s a fantastic storyteller.

With that in mind, you can’t help but appreciate hearing from all of these actors, directors, and other people in the film about Poitier’s impact on their lives. The number of people he has inspired through his work in cinema is incredible because without them so many people might not have taken this leap.

Another thing that stands out is Jesse James Miller’s writing style coupled with Hudlin’s direction. If you watch the film, you will see that it is neither chaotic nor out of sync. It is the story of Poitier from the beginning to the end of time. You cling to this life journey of Poitier and develop a newfound appreciation for certain aspects of his journey.

Sydney is that kind of documentary that could be used in schools so that future generations don’t forget these characters who were really revolutionary for their work. I hope we see more documentaries like this one from Oprah’s production company and this writer/director combo.

In total, Sydney is an incredible look at an extraordinary person. With a documentary, you want to learn about a person, understand their story and what kind of impact they’ve had on people, and that checks all those boxes. I cannot recommend this enough.
