Signs for the Spices2 restaurant hang on Bondgate in Darlington
Rose and Lime on Bondgate in the city closed in mid-August, saying it had made the “difficult decision to call it quits”.
In the final statement it posted on its website, it warned people to be “kinder” and “more understanding” towards small businesses during a “difficult time for independents.”

The closure announcement followed Rose & Lime being added to a Home Office list of North East businesses fined for employing illegal workers between January and March 2023.
A fine of £10,000 was imposed in this case.

Although the venue at 24-26 Bondgate has been empty since Rose & Lime closed, new signage for another Indian restaurant has been spotted in recent days.
The new signs bearing the name “Spices2” have appeared, accompanied by an advert that reads “Exciting news – get ready Darlington!”

It then adds that it will be coming to town “soon” and that the restaurant was a branch of Spices Indian Restaurant.
