Sorry state of rare Mercedes after car wash worker took it for a joyride

In a statement, Mr Murphy said the car, which has approximately 26,000 miles on the clock, was normally chauffeured. “It was a treasured and valuable possession. When I found out about the damage, I was incredibly excited.

“While this doesn’t make me feel vulnerable or intimidated, I’m now incredibly careful about who I entrust my vehicles to.”

In Warrington Magistrates’ Court, Abas pleaded guilty to aggravating a vehicle and driving without a license or insurance and was banned from driving for 12 months. A separate charge of driving without due care and attention was dropped. Despite the impact, Abas and the victim are said to still have “a good relationship.”

Angela Blackmore, Prosecutor, said: “During the interview, the defendant said the vehicle was taken to the car wash and he drove it to Stockport and back. He only had a provisional license. Regarding the accident, he said a mouse ran onto the road and started swerving to avoid it.”

To mitigate Abas, who had no criminal record, Philip Green said: “He shows a lot of remorse and that appears to be real remorse. He’s not employed at the same car wash, but he’s been offered the job again. At that point, he decided not to accept the job offer.”

Abas was given a 12-week suspended sentence and ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £213 in expenses and a victim’s surcharge. No compensation was ordered.
