Southampton 0-2 Brentford: Ivan Toney gets Bees back on track on the eve of England squad announcement

Toney was the first to react in the 32nd minute to score from a Bryan Mbeumo corner, taking his league tally to 16 for the season.
Southampton dominated possession and conceded 563 passes, their highest total this season, but failed to penetrate Brentford’s defense as they missed a chance to get out of the relegation zone.
Yoane Wissa then sealed their fate with a goal on the break deep in injury time.
Brentford, who suffered their first defeat in 12 Premier League games at the weekend, moved up to eighth on 41 points ahead of Fulham.
Southampton’s best chance came just after half-time when a flowing move to the right ended in a close-range shot from Che Adams, which was blocked on the line by Aaron Hickey.
The south coast club remained on 22 points from 27 games, two behind 17th-placed West Ham United.
Gareth Southgate will pick his England squad for the Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine on Thursday.
