“Still want to play on this tour”

The return of ousted Ryder Cup captain Henrik Stenson to the DP World Tour appears to have gone well for him. The ace golfer finished the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship T20, 10 under par and eight strokes behind winner Victor Perez.

Despite the unforgettable result, the Swede said he enjoyed his return to the European circuit. Speaking at Yas Links after the event, the LIV golfer said he had “enjoyed” meeting up with other players.

The golfer added that he played well. The Swede then went on to explain that he “still wants to play on this tour”. Speaking to Golf Digest on Sunday, Henrik Stenson said:

“It was fun meeting a lot of other players and people on this tour. I have played and lived in this region for so many years. I know a lot of people and haven’t seen many of them since last summer. Nobody kicked me in the face and told me they had a problem with me.”

It is important to note that this was Stenson’s first trip back to the DP World Tour since last July’s Genesis Scottish Open. The ace golfer faced the arbitration process next month, which will ultimately determine whether LIV golfers, including himself, will be allowed to compete on the DP World Tour in the future.

Expressing his desire for a positive result, Stenson said:

“I will follow the arbitration case with interest. I will not guess about the result. But it will be interesting to see what comes next. I still want to play on this tour. In my opinion nothing has changed since I started playing on several tours.”

“I’ve always supported Europe. It’s been a big part of my career. That’s not going to change. In fact, if it turns out I can, I could see myself playing here more often than in previous years. It’s all a mess.” But wait a minute.”

Henrik Stenson on possible Ryder Cup return

Stenson also sounded upbeat about the Ryder Cup. While it remains unclear whether LIV golfers will be allowed to play at the international event, the Swede explained that it is not “impossible” for him to qualify. He said:

“I’ve seen Ryder Cups before that I haven’t played. And of course there will be some emotions for me this year. But if I go out and win the Open Championship again and do well elsewhere, I could qualify.”

“It’s not impossible. And it would certainly be the irony of irony. But until we know exactly what’s happening, no one can say what the situation will be like. I’m not the type to guess.”

It should be noted that Stenson has been announced as Team Europe captain for the 2023 edition of the Ryder Cup in Rome. However, the 46-year-old soon switched to LIV Golf, thereby losing his role as captain of the national team. The 2016 champion golfer was even criticized for his early departure.
