Street Fighter 66 comes with a new button-mashing control wing

The brawler Street Fighter 6 is paired with a new streamlined button mashing control.

For the sixth part of the popular fighting game series Street Fighter, developer Capcom introduces a third control variant called Dynamic Controls in addition to Classic Controls and Modern Controls.

This very simple variant puts players in control by pressing the A, X, and B attack buttons. An AI then dynamically decides which attack the fighter would launch depending on the situation.

Director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Shuhei Matsumoto demonstrate the power of the new type of control in a video game. The latter uses the traditional controls, while the latter relies on the new dynamic variant.

Despite not having the controller in hand and only using three attack buttons, Matsumoto managed to achieve victory through the AI’s attack selection.

According to Nakayama, the goal was to make button mashing a viable thing that didn’t just require repeated attacks.

The two classic control variants are only available in all game modes, but the new dynamic variant is only available in local games. First, it should allow new players to get started.

Street Fighter 6 is scheduled for release in 2023 for Xbox X|S, PlayStation 5, PS4 and PC.
