Strictly contestants 2022: First star joins line-up

The first of the contestants for Strictly Come Dancing 2022 has been announced.

The show, rumored to start on BBC One September 10, returns this autumn for its 20th season.

And with that comes a whole host of fresh celebrity dancers.

Strict Candidates 2022: Will Mellor joins the lineup

Actor Will Mellor, famous for playing Jambo in Hollyoaks, was the first contestant to be announced for Strictly Come Dancing 2022.

His announcement came on BBC Breakfast today (4 August).

Will, who performed with hosts Naga Muchetty and Charlie Stayt, said he was “pleased” to be attending.

“I’m really excited to be part of Strictly Come Dancing this year!

“I’m not going to lie, it’s completely out of my comfort zone and I know it’s going to be a big challenge, but that’s what life is about.”

A valid reason for registration

He added: “It’s my mom’s favorite show too and she’s had a really tough few years so I’m doing it for her too. Bring it on!”

I won’t lie, it’s totally out of my comfort zone.

As a result, Will said he accepted immediately when the BBC’s offer was made.

He said: “My mindset completely changed a while ago and I wanted to start doing things that scare me a little bit.

“I lost my dad in 2020 and just thought. I have to take life and do things, create new memories. My way of thinking has changed. It’s my mother’s favorite show!”

New dancers join the Strictly gang

In addition to the celebrity contestants, four new professional dancers have also joined the Strictly gang this year.

News of the newcomers joining the show broke last month when the official Instagram account shared a picture of the dancers.

The post read, “Welcome Carlos, Lauren, Michelle and Vito to join the show and become part of the biggest pro lineup in #Strictly history!”
