Suspicious object left in car outside police station in Londonderry

Army police and engineer officers have been dealing with a suspicious object outside Waterside Police Station in Londonderry.

The alarm began around 11pm on Sunday when a dark-colored Ford Focus suddenly pulled up at the station’s main entrance at Richill Park.

The Belfast Telegraph understands that masked men stopped the car before putting a suspicious object inside and ordering the occupant to drive the car to Waterside Police Station.

Officers armed with assault rifles stood guard as Army engineering officers spent the night working on the vehicle in an operation that has seen members of the public evacuated from their homes.

A police spokesman said: “Police are currently involved in a security alert in the Richill Park area of ​​Derry / Londonderry following a suspicious object was reported in the area.

“Closures are in place and a number of homes have been evacuated. The public is asked to avoid the area at this time, particularly the area of ​​the Crescent link where traffic delays are expected.
