We review Prime Video series Swarm Season 1 created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers no spoilers.

Star obsession is something that has only grown through social media in recent years. We see creators Donald Glover And Janine Naber take a closer look Prime video series swarm.

Swarm SSeason 1 REvaluation and summary of the plot

swarm follows the story of Dre, a young woman who is obsessed with a pop star, but this obsession turns very dark. The series will have seven episodes, all falling at once. Dominique Fishback stars in the lead role of Dre.

Each episode begins with a warning. It says, “This is not fiction” And “Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is intentional.” I think the intention of Glover and Nabers was to make sure the audience understands that while this is a TV show, so many people like Dre exist and can be terrifying for artists.

From the moment you meet Dre, you can tell she’s one of the typical people in an artist’s fandom. She has her own Twitter account dedicated to Ni’Jah and her lock screen is Ni’Jah and her way of getting into a good headspace is via her music. You witness Ni’Jah’s possessed step in the form of her social awkwardness, as you can tell when she’s around people. The willingness to fight when someone says the slightest insult to Ni’Jah, their reaction is anger. It was great how they wrote this character to portray this person perfectly.

Dre is played by Dominique Fishback, who has burst onto the scene in recent years. She had several standout performances, including in the Oscar-winning cast Judas and the Black Messiah. However, Fishback has never been better than what we see of her in the role of Dre. I’m amazed at the depths Fishback must go to in the mind of Dre, who perfectly portrays this overzealous and haunting character. I can’t tell you how many times some of her actions and reactions made my jaw drop. Fishback should be in the Emmy talk, period.

I’ll be honest, this series won’t be for everyone, but it will be one of the most talked about series of 2023. It’s not a basic watch with some of the grisly kills but the equally chilling breakdown of the inner aspects of who Dre really is. I think it’s meant to be a complicated watch but that makes it a must have and I hope many people get the message loud and clear.

The technical aspect of the series starts with the four directors, Adamma Ebo, Ibra AkeDonald Glover and Stephen Glover. They add to the series in a way that builds anticipation with so many zigzags you don’t see them coming due to the brilliant placement of the camera. The aesthetically pleasing work of the cameraman Drew Daniels needs to be highlighted because the dark color palette sets the tone. It’s not the same without it. The same goes for composers Michael Uzowuru haunting score.

Is Swarm season 1 good?

Yes, but with a slight caveat. It’s a gruesome series to watch. So if you have a weak stomach, swarm maybe not for you. Fishback’s performance, however, elevates this deep yet disturbing script, making it one of Prime Video’s best series.

I am blown away by this series and can’t wait to see the conversation it ignites online.
