Texas Senator John Cornyn says “Now do Plessy vs Ferguson/Brown vs Board of Education”

On Saturday morning, Texas Sen. John Cornyn tweeted a racist comment along with part of former President Barack Obama’s statement regarding Friday’s Supreme Court decision to reverse Roe v. Wade.

ObamaTaking his statement on Twitter Friday morning shortly after the sentencing, the Supreme Court said: “Today the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, but left to the whims of politicians and ideologues the most personal decision anyone can make – to attack.” the basic freedoms of millions of Americans.”

The next morning, Cornyn shared this statement from Obama on his own Twitter account, adding, “Now do Plessy vs. Ferguson/Brown vs. Board of Education.”

Brown v. Board of Education, decided by the Supreme Court in 1954, did historical justice by overturning the 1896 judgment of Plessy v. Ferguson, rightly declaring “separate but equal” unconstitutional.

After Cornyn’s first tweet, which received a tremendous heated backlash, he fired off another saying, “Thank God some SCOTUS precedents are being overridden.”

“Let’s help less intelligent fellow Americans,” one commentator said in response to Cornyn’s initial tweet. “Plessy stood longer as the law of the land than Roe. That was [John Cornyn’s] Point. Now, if liberals are arguing that Brown v. Board of Ed was wrongly decided because of long-standing precedents, they should say so openly.”

This comment was retweeted by Cornyn. The following answers were not.

One commenter tweeted a photo of Cornyn with the word “racist” written in red across his chest.

Another commenter shared a stock photo of a black man drinking from a water fountain with the caption “colored” and asked, “Do you miss something like that?”

And another one of thousands of similar commenters shared an illustration of a Klan hood next to a MAGA hat with the text “Evil doesn’t die, it reinvents itself”.
