“That’s LeBron saying, ‘Make the Buddy Hield trade, give me a laser’” – NBA analyst evaluates Lakers’ urgent need to acquire Pacers shooting guard

In the LA Lakers’ 123-109 loss to the Golden State Warriors on opening night, the Lakers never really looked like they were in the game.

As expected, while the Warriors were in full swing, the Stars played well for Los Angeles. LeBron James had 31 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Anthony Davis contributed 27 points, and Russell Westbrook contributed 19 points and 11 rebounds.

In “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” Cowherd discussed the problems with the Lakers’ rostering. The team has no shooters to work with LeBron, who tends to play at his best when surrounded by outside shots.

“I don’t think the Lakers have another player besides LeBron and AD that the Warriors would use in their nine-man rotation,” Cowherd said. “This is uni and JV.”

Cowherd discussed James’ postgame comment about the team having no shooters. Right now, the Lakers don’t have anyone who could pose a threat and speak up.

Lakers options to acquire Buddy Hield

One of the themes from last season that has carried over into this year is that Russell Westbrook is a bad fit for this team. During the offseason, one of the proposed trades was a trade that would send Westbrook to the Indiana Pacers for Buddy Hield.

This trade wasn’t going to be easy player to player, but it would take some other things to make it happen. The Pacers would also include big man Myles Turner, and the Lakers would also drop two first-round draft picks. Experts believe the Lakers are reluctant to complete this deal because they don’t want to give up so much draft capital. The team has already traded many picks to get Anthony Davis.

Hield has averaged 18.2 points per game as a pacer. He also shoots 39.8% from 3-point range for his career.

Recently acquired 3 point shooter Lakers

The Lakers didn’t really have many 3-point shooters to speak of during the LeBron era. Last season, the team had Malik Monk, whom the team was unable to re-sign while on free agency. The team lost two capable shooters, Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, during the Russell Westbrook trade last year.

Going back to the 2020 championship year, the team consisted of Danny Green, Quinn Cook and Alex Caruso. The team needs to make a trade to fix this issue.
