“That’s terrorizing stuff” – Brian Windhorst believes Ben Simmons playing center surrounded by shooters would be one of the most potent lineups ever seen

Ben Simmons has not played for the Brooklyn Nets since taking over at the close of business on February 10. However, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst thinks they could have one of the strongest lineups ever if Simmons is used as a center.

Not much good news has come out of Brooklyn this summer. The organization has been burdened with finding new homes for their top two players.

Kevin Durant has requested a trade, but no team offer has appealed to the Nets. The same goes for Kyrie Irving, who was linked with the LA Lakers for most of the offseason.

With all the excitement within the organization, fans’ attention has been drawn away from just how good the team can be. In “The Hoop Collective,” Windhorst pointed out that Brooklyn could have one of the strongest shooting rosters of all time:

“There was a concept that Ben Simmons could play center for this team this year. And if you think about those lineups, we’d have Simmons at the center and he could be protected by Durant and Kyrie and Seth Curry and Joe Harris. That would be one of the strongest shooting lineups you could ever see.

“And you could have Simmons defending (the) middle position and then possibly being the creator or pick-and-rolling with one of these guys and spreading the floor. I mean, this is terrorizing stuff.”

Not many will forget Simmons’ terrible performance during the 2021 Eastern Conference semifinals. Philadelphia 76ers fans are blaming their former guard for losing the series to the Atlanta Hawks.

Simmons was the center of ridicule throughout the 2021 offseason, fueling his decision not to play for the Sixers the following season. He sat out until he was traded to James Harden on deadline day.

A back injury prevented Simmons from playing for the Nets even when they desperately needed a spark during their playoff loss. However, the organization is excited about what might happen as the All-Star Guard prepares to return to court.

Simmons’ presence will no doubt be a huge boost, especially in defence. The former Defensive Player of the Year, runner-up, has multiple positions to defend, all at elite level.

Despite being a defensive master, he also has a lot to offer offensively. Although his shooting isn’t there, he has an impressive view of the court and will improve his transition offense.

Whether it all leads to a championship depends on how the team behaves on the hardwood. However, it’s worth noting that if one or both of KD and Irving depart, their odds of winning drop significantly.
