Third baseman Matt Chapman was placed on the injured list (finger) prior to Thursday’s game against the Texas Rangers.

Chapman was on the 10-day injured list with a strained right middle finger, a bizarre injury he sustained in the weight room. In his two years with the team, the former Oakland Athletic has become a great leader in the clubhouse.
“He’s very vocal,” Schneider said. “He’s intense, we’ve all seen that. He just wants to win every day. He chewed on the piece and watched. His best qualities come out when he plays.”
The challenge for Chapman, of course, will be what he does at the plate. After a great offensive April, the veteran had problems at times and now has to quickly get used to the bat in his hand again after missing 15 games.

“We discussed a rehab assignment, but since we’re in the middle of the season, it’s time,” said Schneider. “This will be a real win for the boys. We’re excited to have our regulars back there.”
To make room for Chapman’s return, Nathan Lukes was optioned back to Triple-A Buffalo.
