CD Projekt Red confirmed that its major Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty, will receive paid DLC upon its release in 2023.
Speaking to Games Radar, Global PR Director Radek Grabowski said that while he couldn’t confirm a price, the expansion isn’t more free DLC compared to the recent Edgerunners update.
While players familiar with CD Projekt Red might have expected it, this is the first time the developer has explicitly confirmed that Phantom Liberty would cost money.

There’s some confusion, of course, as CD Projekt Red doesn’t typically release a lot of free content for their games (including the next-gen update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, coming this December). Phantom Liberty is a much heavier addition to new stories and missions, but without new cosmetics, weapons, etc.
Only a short teaser trailer has been released so far, confirming that Keanu Reeves will be returning as Johnny Silverhand in the expansion. He heard the warning that V was horrified when they took an oath; He apologized to the New USA
At the game director’s announcement, Gabriel Amatengelo promised that Phantom Liberty is a new storyline, new cast of characters, and exciting expansion to Night City.
