The history of Narvik takes place in the coastal town in Norway this is one of the largest iron ore deposits in the world. Of course, as his master race, Hitler wants to expand his ever-growing empire. The north is then defended by a regiment with Corporel Gunnar Tofte (Carl Martin Eggesbo), who his wife Ingrid (Christine Hartgen) and little son Ole (Christoph Gelfert Mathiesen) for a bit of rest. Returning late that night, the Germans landed on the beach and the Norwegian colonel surrendered his gun.

Gunnar and the remaining soldiers refuse to surrender their weapons, so they leave town, led by their commander, Major Omdal (a very good one Henrik Mestad). He orders them to leave the city because they refused to lay down their arms. All so they can prepare their next mission to blow up the bridge that carries the precious ore out of the city. Ingrid now speaks German and becomes a translator for the German officer Frtiz Wussow. The man shines with her while she works at the best downtown hotel. She even helps the English diplomats (Billy Campbell) Escape. Ingrid has them hidden in the mountain hut by an employee who was there the day before to negotiate peace.

Gunnar’s father puts Ingrid and Ole on a train out of town while Gunnar looks for dynamite to blow up the bridge. The Germans stop this train and throw the passengers out. You go through a tunnel on the bridge. Gunnar and the Major see her and hustle her away. Then the German soldiers show up and Gunnar damages the bridge so badly that it’s too dangerous to drive a train across it. However, he is captured by the enemy while witnessing Ingrid and Ole being escorted back to town.

For the next four weeks, Gunnar is used as a forced laborer and Ingrid works for the Germans in the hotel. She steals cards from Fritz’s office and hands them over to the English, who then bomb the town and her house. Gunnar’s father is killed and Ole has shrapnel near his lungs. To get a doctor in town, Ingrid tells Fritz where the English lawyer is hiding in exchange for a doctor to operate on her son. That makes Ingrid an outcast in the city. Meanwhile, Gunnar is freed by French troops and helps them take out a machine gun nest. Gunnar then learns that his father was killed.

In the film’s best scene, the Major draws his pistol and fires it into the air to prevent joint Norwegian and French troops from retreating. The Norwegian soldiers storm the Narvik beaches and take out five machine gun nests and a cannon attacking opposing forces. The soldiers find their way back to the city, but after Ingrid rejects Fritz’s offer to take them to Berlin.

How does Gunnar get back to his wife? He goes back to town and the town celebrates. However, Gunnar overhears Ingrid being close to German officers and assumes she slept with one. However, she tells her husband that it is for their son, but Gunnar still considers his wife a traitor.

Ingrid leaves, packs a bag and makes her way to the boat. Gunnar listens to the Major’s speech that the soldiers should do everything they hold dear. When Ingrid goes to the ship, she is pushed and ostracized by her fellow citizens. At that moment Gunnar shows up, no longer in uniform, and helps Ingrid to her feet and they get on the boat as a family and then hug.

The victory of Narvik was short-lived. At the end of the film, the British, French, and Polish soldiers returned home without notifying the Norwegian forces, and the city was recaptured by the Germans a few months later. However, the battle was viewed as Hitler’s first defeat.
