The Georgia grand jury heard the third Trump call attempting to influence the 2020 election results

A special grand jury in Georgia allegedly heard a recording of Donald Trump attempting to get then-House Speaker David Ralston to call a special session of the legislature to overturn Joe Biden’s narrow 2020 election victory in the state.

Ralston, who has since passed away, reportedly deflected the outgoing president’s plea, allegedly telling Mr Trump, “I will do everything in my power as I see fit,” according to the juror who spoke to him Constitution of the Atlanta Journalwhat first reported the news of the call.

A special session was never called, although Republicans in the state organized a plan for it serve as unauthorized sham voters and cast their Electoral College votes for Donald Trump despite Mr. Biden winning the state’s vote.

The Independent has reached out to Mr Trump for comment.

Jurors have previously focused on other calls Mr Trump made to state officials in 2020, including an infamous recording from the president asking Georgia Foreign Minister Brad Raffensperger to “find” him enough votes to win.

Since February 2021, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been investigating the former president’s attempts to influence the results of the state’s 2020 presidential election.

In January of this year, Ms. Willis convened a grand jury completed his workleaving the prosecutor in an unprecedented position to decide whether Donald Trump will be the first former president in US history prosecuted for a crime.

“You won’t be shocked. It’s not rocket science,” said Emily Kohrs, spokeswoman for the jury New York Times its conclusions. “You won’t be too surprised.”

“We definitely started the first phone call, the publicized call to Foreign Minister Raffensperger,” Ms. Kohrs added.

In another recorded call reported by The Washington Postcan be heard Mr Trump urging Frances Watson, Georgia’s senior election investigator, to expose “dishonesty”.

“If the right answer comes out, you’ll be commended,” he says in the recording.
