The Glory Season 1 Episode 16 Summary and Ending Explained

Summary

The end of the glory is undeniably a mess, but it manages to tie up virtually every loose end while also hinting that there could be more to come in the future.

This article contains major spoilers for The Glory Season 1 Episode 16, including a candid discussion of the ending of The Glory Part 2.

The final of the glory charitably could be described as “everywhere”. Some might call it a complete mess, although there’s undeniably a great sense of catharsis and even some touching emotion amidst the many, many loose ends to tie up. In any case, though, there’s a lot going on in it, and the extra-long running time seems necessary to accommodate not only a conclusion to the first season, but also, in some ways, a setup for the second. We’re here to explain everything.

Given the unusual structure of this episode, we won’t necessarily go through it in chronological order, but we’ll summarize how each of the main subplots unfolded and what happened to the main characters.

The Glory Season 1 Episode 16 Summary

Who Killed Myeong-o?

This might seem like an obvious question since we assumed Yeon-jin killed him the whole time. Even she believes that, and ultimately the authorities too. However, this episode reveals that it was actually Kim Gyeong-ran who dealt the final blow to Myeong-o.

Gyeong-ran was the victim the gang committed to after Dong-eun, and they kept her as something of a middle ground between employee and slave. She had lived a life of fear, never daring to rise up against her oppressors, but Dong-eun obviously inspired her. However, to my knowledge, no one knows about it except Dong-eun, to whom Gyeong-ran confesses.

How is Yeon-Jin arrested?

In the course of her confession, Gyeong-ran gives Dong-eun the murder weapon she was hiding. Since Dong-eun and Yeo-jeong have already done the heavy lifting of planting Yeon-jin’s DNA onto Myeong-o for the police to match with the DNA found on the lighter found at So- hee’s death was found, here’s the final nail in Yeon-jin’s coffin as proof. Dong-eun plants it at Siesta and gives the police an anonymous tip that leads them straight there.

When Yeon-jin is sent a video showing the murder weapon in the background, she rushes to Siesta and stumbles upon the police CSI team investigating the crime scene. She is arrested on the spot.

How does Jae Jun die?

With Yeon-jin more or less finished, Dong-eun sets her sights on Jae-jun and she tasks Hye-jeong with it. After being stabbed in the neck by Sa-ra, Hye-jeong is now mute and desperate for revenge, so she agrees to swap Jae-jun’s glaucoma eyedrops for a more toxic substitute. While this is certainly a contributing factor to Jae-jun’s downfall, it’s not quite the end of the story just yet.

Jae-jun is blinded while sitting in his car, and after stumbling onto a construction site, he hears movement nearby. He is eventually pushed off the top of the compound into a cement puddle by a man who cannot be positively identified but is evidently Do-Yeongwho leaves for Great Britain with his daughter Ye-sol.

The Glory Part 2 ends

Will Dong-eun and Yeo-jeong end up together?

episode 15 ended on a bit of a cliffhanger with the revelation that Yeo-jeong knew about So-hee and Dong-eun’s mission even before they were officially introduced. That’s true, but his motives aren’t particularly sinister. He decided from the start that he would do anything for Dong-eun, up to and including her execution, because he believed so strongly in her mission based on his own experience of losing his father to a sadistic killer named Yeong-cheong.

Dong-eun asks Yeo-jeong to help her “to the end.” When her mission is complete, she interprets the ending as suicide, but Yeo-jeong’s mother begs her to move on so she can help Yeo-jeong lead his own life. He’s still in the hell of grief and she doesn’t think he can survive without Dong-eun. So she agrees, and in a reversal of the dynamic we’ve seen throughout the season, she becomes his executioner and helps him get revenge on Yeong-cheong.

So, Dong-eun and Yeo-jeong eventually end up together. It is implied that they will complete their revenge mission and then move on to new pastures, which is imagined as even more revenge. For that they need another pair of hands, and the glory ends with Hyeon-nam receiving a text message from Dong-eun telling her that she needs an assistant once again.
