The Looking Glass on Athenaeum Street, Sunderland is closing
The Looking Glass (TLG) on Athenaeum Street in Sunderland announced its closure on Wednesday (3 May).
The bar announced this in a social media post on Facebook and thanked the customers for their loyalty.

They also wished the new operators of the building well and said they would be exploring new business opportunities.
A TLG spokesman said: “We have shared many happy occasions with you all: baby showers, christenings, weddings, birthdays and more.”
“Your loyalty and dedication meant everything to us, so thank you.”
“Sunderland is experiencing transformative change and development in many areas.
“We wish the new operators of the former Looking Glass all the best with their project.”
Sunderland City Council (SCC) said Siglion Investments had decided to end its license with the current owner after several months of operational challenges.
They added that they still own the property and are in dialogue with alternative operators.
They said that another update will be provided in the future.
An SCC spokesperson said: “Given the ongoing operational challenges that resulted in Looking Glass being closed for several months in 2022, Siglion Investments LLP has decided to terminate its license with the current user so an alternative use could be identified .”
“Siglion Investments LLP continues to own the property and is in dialogue with alternative operators.

According to TLG, Cafe 1851 will continue to operate at Mackies Corner and be available for event bookings.
They also thanked everyone “who was part of our journey”.
