The NFL To Appeal Deshaun Watson’s 6-Game Suspension, Will Seek Indefinite Suspension

The NFL with the appeal.

On Monday, the NFL world was set on fire when it was revealed that the current quarterback for the Cleveland Browns Deshaun Watson would only get one Six-game ban for the upcoming season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy after Watson was accused of sexual assault by 25 women over the past two years.

Needless to say, a lot of people were less than thrilled with the ruling considering other NFL athletes like Calvin Ridley, who played on his own team while retiring from the game for a while, was serving a year-long suspension from the NFL had received NFL.

Many argued that Watson’s suspension was insufficient given the allegations.

With that in mind, it was announced that the NFL is now appealing the six-game suspension, saying the suspension should be worse. Let’s face it, the NFL tries to crack down on disciplinary issues, and 6 games is basically a slap on the wrist.

The irony is that the judge gave him 6 games to match previous disciplinary decisions.

Watson was handed the verdict by retired federal judge Sue Robinson, and the NFL sent the following statement on the decision:

“Under the 2020 NFL-NFLPA CBA, the disciplinary officer’s findings of fact are binding and not subject to appeal.

Judge Robinson found that Mr. Watson had violated NFL guidelines on personal conduct on multiple occasions and suspended him for six games.

The CBA grants the NFL or NFLPA the right to appeal the discipline imposed by the disciplinary officer.”

The appeal would now be heard by Commissioner Roger Goodell or an agent of his choice, the agency said New York Post.

The NFL notified the NFLPA that they will exercise their right to appeal the verdict, and Goodell will select the appointee at a later date.
