The Queen’s Ball: A Bridgerton Experience | Review and Photo

Call me Lady Whistledown because everyone is talking about The Queen’s Ball: A “Bridgerton” Experience and my quill is about to break. This summer, Netflix opened its doors to fans in San Francisco, Atlanta and Washington DC, welcoming royally dressed guests for an evening of cocktails, aerial dances, portrait poses and an audience with the Queen. With Bridgerton Season 2 in mind, I needed to see the Regency-era soirees for myself, so I donned one of my smartest dresses (not nearly extravagant enough) and prepared to meet like the future would of the surname depend on it.

Wineglass in hand, I made my way through the crowd of guests—some decked out in pearls and lace, others in ornate robes to rival the Queen’s—and snapped every photo I could find. The event began in an ornate hall with a garden cocktail bar, Madame Delacroix’s fashion boutique, vendors selling merch such as lace gloves and paper fans, and a springtime pavilion with rhinestone curtains. After passing through a magenta-lit, flower-bedecked tunnel, we were escorted to a grand ballroom, complete with a red carpet rolled out in front of the royal chaise, where the Queen herself sat to deliver her verdict.

As people floated by in Marie Antoinette wigs and Regency-inspired lingerie, I sipped my drink and took it all in like Penelope Featherington planning the next issue of the Whistledown brochure. Although no strict dress code was enforced, my fellow 19th-century aristocrats took the opportunity to dress smartly and spared no expense in their costumes.

After sketching my portrait, curtseying to the Queen (she was mildly impressed!) and spilling some wine on my shoes, I made my way to the dance floor, where air dancers swung from silk ribbons and re-enacted Daphne’s love story with the Duke. The tone for the entire event was set by the live orchestra and expert fiddlers, who performed cover after cover of songs by Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and more. To conclude the celebrations, Her Majesty selected a diamond from the crowd and we all watched as a shower of glittering confetti fell around her, making the night seem surreal and magical.

As the evening drew to a close I felt like I had just stepped out of an episode of Bridgerton, no closer to becoming a king but reluctant to say goodbye. Whether you’re a Bridgerton superfan or have never seen the series and want a night of extravagance, the immersive experience is well worth it.
