Most people saw a beach scene, complete with the coastline and rippling sea.
Split the image Twittersomeone captioned the ‘trippy’ image: “If you can see a beach, ocean sky, rocks and stars then you’re an artist.”
However, it is not that simple. The answer?
It actually shows the bottom part of a car door.
Some confused viewers took to social media to share what the picture really shows.
Despite knowing what the photo is really about, people have claimed they are still having trouble seeing the car.
Hundreds of people commented on the image after it landed RedditShe with one person said: “I can still see the beach. I can see the car if I want but the beach is better.”
Someone else said, “If I focus on that larger pebble, I see the car, otherwise it’s a beach.”
A third said: “I still don’t know. I can only see the beach. Anyone help?”
While another added: “Am I tripping? Because I really do see the beach.”
One person explained the illusion, claiming the image was an example of “confirmation bias”.
They said: “It looks like a beach in the thumbnail.
“One expects, ‘this is a picture of a beach.’ This is your first impression and it is just your feeling.
“Hardly any ‘information’ other than the picture, but you’re already confident.
“Then the caption confirms that with an affirmative message: ‘If you see a beach, then you’re an artist.’
“Once it’s revealed what it actually is, your brain struggles to see it as anything other than a beach.
“That’s how quickly our brain makes these connections in our heads.”
