The Terrace, York was recreated after “six-figure” expenditure

The Terrace operated in Fossgate for 17 years and was run by 26-year-old publican Paul Gardner.

However, pub company Stonegate decided not to renew the lease and closed the venue in early summer.

They then spent £300,000 creating The Stonebow, which opened at the end of July.

Paul, who has several other pubs across the city, was looking for another venue and a friend told him about the All Bar One location on New Street.

The lease was about to expire, so operator Mitchell and Butler wanted to terminate it.

Paul, 51, saw an opportunity and set about remodeling to recreate his beloved The Terrace when All Bar One closed in August.

The Northern Echo: Friendly staff are available to cook and serve

The new venue is centrally located connecting Coney Street and Parliament Street.

Last Friday, The Terrace opened its doors to great fanfare and reported a busy first weekend.

However, when the press called this (Friday) morning it was a bit quiet, but it had only just opened.

The terrace is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and until midnight on Saturdays.

Paul spent a “six-figure sum” on The Terrace, which was shiny and looking new this morning.

A long and impressive looking bar dominates one side of the venue and is supported by large television screens.

On the other side is a huge 100-inch model!

The Northern Echo: Look at the size of this TV!

Paul said: “We have every kind of sport and ten TV screens, including a huge 100-inch screen. We have Sky, BT, TNT, Dazn, Viaplay and both racing channels.”

“Our food is homemade on site. We have traditional pub food, grazing boards, mixed grills, steaks, burgers, fish and chips, lamb shanks, hot dogs, wraps and sandwiches.”

The pub also has an impressive selection of spirits and cocktails, offering John Smith’s, Fosters and Inch Cider for £3 a pint Monday to Thursday from 11am to 5pm.

The pub has a dominoes team, a darts team and a six-a-side football team. There will also be live music.

When redesigning The Terrace, Paul also took eight employees from his old bar and recruited eight new ones.

Customers have also moved, including Mick.

The Northern Echo:

He told the press: “I like the way the space is designed. It’s clean, nicely decorated and the staff is friendly. Paul definitely serves a very good pint. He also offers an extensive menu. I followed Paul from Fossgate all the way here. This will be my new local pub.”

Helen and Ian from Manchester said on TripAdvisor: “It’s great to see the relaunch of The Terrace. Paul got this place up and running again. The best sports bar. Atmosphere/beer/food fantastic and staff. Nice to see familiar faces. Fantastic job for everyone involved in reopening Terrace.
Always visit us when you are in York.”
