We review Prime Video documentary series The Test Season 2 released on January 13, 2023.

In 2020 The Test: A new era for Australia’s team premiered on Prime video. It’s a series that explores the ups and downs of the Australia cricket team. After a cheating scandal rocked the team and country, Australia were missing a captain.

Their image was shattered and they didn’t know how to navigate the media frenzy surrounding them. The first season featured some pretty interesting perspectives from the team members, but this second season completely switches. It’s almost like there’s a different vibe on the team that the players discuss in their one-on-ones.

The Test Season 2 Review and Plot Summary

The first season became very popular on the streaming service and many viewers loved this second season. This season follows the 2021/2022 cricket season which sees Australia take on arch-rivals England. It almost gives you a new appreciation for the sport because it’s not something that’s widely televised.

That’s why this season has become really international. Especially since the Aussie team is up against teams around the world that they have long been unfamiliar with. This second season showcases players’ personalities in the locker room and out in the real world.

It examines their lives and gives viewers a different perspective on the players.

Is The Test Season 2 good on Prime Video?

If you enjoyed the scandal of season one, then this season takes a different approach. You will learn about the process of cricket and what it takes to be a captain on the team. Coaching and captaincy go hand in hand, and Pat Cummins is stepping up to the helm. He changes a few things and most importantly the perspective of the team. It’s a very different approach to the previous captain and that makes it a strong season. Of course, things have to change with new leadership, but since Cummins is a family man, it felt different. Players also felt different when approaching him.

Fans generally want to see what’s happening in the dressing room between halves or after practice. This season, the entire team also had to deal with COVID in the early stages. Which can also put a strain on the entire team. In taking on that captaincy, Cummins also had to deal with unprecedented events that he had no idea how to process himself. It was interesting to see what they went through and it was also inspiring to see all the players coming together as a family this season.

The most important aspect of sports documentaries is the camaraderie of the players on the team and the respect they have for one another. This Australian cricket team has been through so much and they keep pushing forward, determined to achieve their goal.
