The Waiter Served A Group Of Teenagers And Only Received A $3.28 Tip. This Note Appears A Few Days Later – Women After 40

Servers don’t earn a viable wage unless their customers leave a tip. While many would argue that it should be the restaurant’s responsibility to pay its waitresses more money and not shift the burden of responsibility onto the customer, this is currently the case in the American restaurant industry. And it’s really not fair.

If a waiter does a good job and serves the customer well, the customer can still choose not to tip fairly. That means the server might not have dinner at some point this week.

In Los Angeles, a waiter served a group of teenagers on their way to their homecoming dance. Recalling his experiences as a young high school student, the waiter looked forward to his homecoming dance. So he made sure the teenagers had an enjoyable experience at the restaurant. The waiter made sure of that.

But they left him a despicable tip.

After serving all the teenagers and doing a great job, they only left him $3.28. That’s barely enough to buy a drink at Starbucks, let alone pay the mounting bills.

The waiter went home. And he hated the students who didn’t know the value of hard work. They were entitled and looked down on people like him. Or so he assumed.

After a few days the waiter forgot the insult. His life went on as normal. But ten days later, he received a letter from the teenagers.

“About a week and a half ago, on October 7th, my three friends and I came to eat at this restaurant for our own homecoming celebration. It was an exciting experience for us to be here alone and it was all new to us. And you were the best waiter we could ask for. They were kind, helpful, accommodating, didn’t treat us like babies and were even able to customize the food for all my allergies! So I wanted to thank you for making our “adult” experience so amazing and fun.

“I would also like to apologize on behalf of my group. Being new to all of this, our 13-year-old mind didn’t quite know how to handle the bill. They were super helpful in splitting up the investigation and taking our not so preferred cash. The bill was reasonable, but we had completely forgotten (and honestly didn’t know) what a tip was, let alone how much to give. So we emptied our pockets and all our money added up to $3.28.

“Unaware of how small this really was, we left not knowing what we left you for all your hard work. Later we realized our mistake and felt terrible. We knew we had to do it right.

“So inside this envelope you’ll find the right 18% Tip + Extra to just be great. We appreciate your help and patience and thank you for making our evening a pleasure. Many Thanks!”

These teenagers not only admitted their mistake, they did it right.
