The York Knights are targeting the Ruby in the Super League for 2025 following the Leigh Cup draw
Henderson has outlined his long-term ambitions for York, including reaching the Betfred Super League by 2025, but is very happy with how the season has gone for now.
Eager to present the City of York with the Ruby of the Super League, the Knights head coach recognizes the players’ efforts.
“This is a real opportunity to make history and make our own history, and we succeeded in doing that today,” enthused Henderson.
“This group has now made it to the quarter-finals of the competition.
“One of the things I’ve been pushing for if we win today is a draw at home so we can show some Super League Rugby.”
“As a club we have made it very clear to the whole rugby league world that we have the ambition and genuine ambition, ideally by 2025 but certainly into the future, to be a Super League club.”
“A great opportunity to now win Leigh Leopards at home to showcase the Ruby of the Super League to our home fans and the general public and hopefully we can paint a good picture of ourselves in that regard.”
“I am really excited. It’s an honor for the players and an honor for the team. They’ve earned the right to be there at this stage of the competition and to say that we’ve had some adversity this year, some disruptions this year and with the injury, even with the crisis, we’re not doing too badly .
“One win from the top six in the championship and we are now in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup and the semi-finals of the 1895 Cup.”
“I think for the York fans, but also for our own playgroup, there are a lot of things to look forward to.”
“We are very happy to be alive in all three competitions.”
