Theakston Old Peculier Ale is to be sold in 100 Marks & Spencer stores
The news comes at a time when demand for their beers continues to increase in both the brewery’s on and off trade, with Theakston’s recording a 4.5 per cent increase in value in the off trade, while the market for Bottled beer recorded a six percent decline.
The latest listing means Theakston Old Peculier is now listed in all major UK supermarket chains and follows the launch of Old Peculier cans at Asda earlier this summer.
Believed to have been first brewed in the early 19th century, Theakston Old Peculier is the flagship brand of the family business which has been brewing in Masham for almost 200 years.
The dark ruby red beer is brewed from a blend of barley with two bittering hops and Fuggle hops, delivering a full-bodied flavor popular with real ale fans.
Simon Theakston, joint managing director of T&R Theakston, said: “Theakston Old Peculier is a flagship beer for us and the town of Masham, the name of which pays homage to the town’s unique ecclesiastical status as the ‘Court of the Peculier’, first in the Middle Ages founded.
“It’s great to see Old Peculier’s continued rise in popularity cementing its status as one of the country’s best-known and best-loved beers. With this new M&S listing, it’s fantastic to say that this lovely brew is now listed in all major UK supermarkets, meaning fans have the opportunity to experience the taste of Old Peculier both in and from the comfort of their local pub to enjoy their own home.”
