There Are Now More Breaux Bridges in Mississippi Than Louisiana

The Breaux Bridge used to be a charming site unique to Louisiana.

In fact, Breaux Bridge, LA was recently named one of the most charming towns in the country—but the exclusivity for Louisiana Changed again in 2018 if a restaurant called Breaux Bridge decided to open its doors in Mississippi.

You may or may not remember this story where we announced the opening of a restaurant called Breaux Bridge in Columbus, MS.

But while driving around Mississippi recently, I found that they opened a second location over an hour away in Meridian, MS.

That means Mississippi officially has more Breaux Bridges than Louisiana, and there’s definitely a part of me that wonders how “Cajun” this food tastes.

According to the press release, when the restaurant opened Breaux Bridge, the restaurant wanted to pay homage to Breaux Bridge, LA for its “rich Cajun history” but also “bridge” the Asian cooking style with fusion dishes.

In 1959, the Louisiana Legislature designated the city of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, as the crawfish capital of the world. While we serve dishes other than crawfish, we felt this name encapsulated the story we wanted for our restaurant, as we pay homage to a place with rich Cajun history and the Asian cooking style that was used in the preparation of some dishes is used, “bridge”. .

I think every time we see the word “Cajun” outside of Louisiana (hell, outside of Acadiana, if we’re being honest), we tend to get a little skeptical.

But when this restaurant called Breaux Bridge has opened a second location since it opened in 2018, it must be good for someone, right?

Especially considering the pandemic years, it seems like the Breaux Bridge is coming along well as they recently celebrated their 4th birthday – but I’ll have to stop by and visit them before I can really compare them to the actual Breaux Bridge.

Have you tried it yet? Has anyone you know eaten there? If so, drop all your hot takes and if you’re ever in Meridian or Columbus, Mississippi, be sure to check it out.

But we all know where the true crawfish capital of the world is – and it still is original Breaux Bridge, LA.
