These Lafayette Intersections Need a Roundabout

One of the most controversial words when it comes to traffic in Lafayette Parish – roundabout.

I personally love them. They keep traffic flowing and can take some of the frustration out of stop-and-go traffic — like the many red lights that motorists stop non-stop every day on the Ambassador Caffery Parkway. I live in “roundabout country” – I mean, Youngsville – where the city government and its constituents have embraced the big roundabouts wholeheartedly.

Other people don’t feel the way I do. I think that’s because of their frustration with people who don’t know how to use them properly. Roundabouts are not designed for vehicles on a line of traffic to hog the circle while vehicles on the line of traffic hoping to cross sit and wait a long time to enter the circle.

We asked our listeners which traffic junctions need a roundabout.

We got great answers. Some of these are intersections that I don’t drive often, but I see the need for a roundabout. Many of these intersections could benefit greatly from a roundabout, while other intersections listed below may not be realistic intersections for a roundabout installation.

Just don’t get stuck in the loop like Chevy Chase did in European Vacation.

Here are the answers we received.
