Throwback To Garth Brooks Singing “Rocky Top” At Neyland Stadium, Back In 2019

It feels a lot like 1998 for Tennessee Volunteer football fans.

After a truly incredible game of defeating the Crimson Tide on Saturday, I’m really proud to be a Tennessee.

I felt like a braggart saying the University of Tennessee isn’t my alma mater (Go Pokes), but growing up in Tennessee I spent many Saturdays watching vol football and yelling at my dad on the TV Listen.

It’s not always easy to cheer for a team like Tennessee.

However, since that win, I’ve had “Rocky Top” on BLAST.

Two years ago, Garth Brooks performed to a packed Neyland Stadium and this video clip of him performing the classic “Rocky Top” while in Rocky Top is iconic.

This clip has aged beautifully.

Brooks and his fiddler took center stage to bring an electrifying conclusion to this show.

“I have to ask you, have you and I ever played this song together?”

Brooks says to his violin player at the beginning of the video clip.

“Well, tonight will be the first and only time we play this song!”

The song’s fast-paced twang not only gets the fans singing along, but the stadium roars. In the orange and white checkered stadium, you can feel the audience’s pride at having sung the legendary song.

Brooks shouts at the end of the tune:

The two have so much fun performing this song, you can’t help but smile when you see it… and it helps, it’s damn good.

I’m still impressed that Vol fans didn’t burn Knoxville down after that game.

Rocky Top you will always be a home away from home to me. Throwback To Garth Brooks Singing “Rocky Top” At Neyland Stadium, Back In 2019
