TikTok Halloumi Gyros: Check out the recipe and learn how to make it at home

#gyros is also popular on TikTok with 576.3 million views.

Not only is it an easy recipe, it is also a vegetarian dish and there is no better time to try this dish as it is National Vegetarian Week.

We decided to try it ourselves by following one of the recipes uploaded on the social media platform and here is our take.

What do you need for the halloumi gyros?

  • halloumi
  • paprika
  • Red onion
  • Honey
  • chili flakes
  • paprika
  • salt and pepper seasoning
  • flatbread
  • Sweet chili sauce
  • Peri mayonnaise
  • lettuce

While the list of things included isn’t the shortest, this TikTok recipe from user @jadecarolanfitness mainly uses ingredients you may already have in your cupboard or fridge, so you can practically use up some of it.

It’s also versatile as the red pepper could easily be replaced with a yellow one as we already had those at home.

How to prepare the TikTok Halloumi Gyros

Step 1

Start by chopping the peppers, red onions, and halloumi.

step 2

Put the honey, paprika and chili flakes in a saucepan with a little water and prepare a sauce.

step 3

Fry the peppers and red onion in a separate pan.

step 4

Add the chopped halloumi to the pan with the sauce and brush with it. Fry on medium to high heat. Turn the heat down so the halloumi becomes sticky.

step 5

Add the fried onions and pepper to the pan along with the halloumi (once they have softened), sprinkle with salt and pepper and stir.

step 6

Heat the flatbread, place the salad on top and add the halloumi, pepper and onion mixture.

step 7

Add the sweet chili sauce and peri mayonnaise, wrap the flatbread loosely and enjoy!
