Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly looking to sign Sporting CP right-back Pedro Porro this month in a bid to avoid Real Madrid competition in the summer. Spurs have been locked in talks over a move for the Spaniard.
Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade has added to speculation that Tottenham are trying to push a move for Porro this month. He claims Spurs are wary of Real Madrid chasing the Sporting right-back in the summer.
A meeting between the north London club and Sporting was reportedly held on Wednesday (25 January) to decide on a potential deal for Porro. The Primeira Liga club aren’t ready to sell the defender under his €45m release clause.
The 23-year-old was in top form, scoring three goals and providing 11 assists in 25 games in all competitions. He played twice against Tottenham in the UEFA Champions League this season and was not on the losing side in either game.
Porro was previously a Manchester City player, although he never appeared as a senior for Pep Guardiola’s side. He joined Sporting from City last summer for €8.5m. He was previously on loan at Estádio José Alvalade for two seasons.
Real Madrid’s future interest in Porro could worry the Lilywhites and they appear eager to seal a deal for the right-back now. If they don’t, the queue for his signature could only get longer.
Real Madrid are urged to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane
Scotland expert Tam McManus has urged Kane to leave Tottenham and join Real Madrid. The England striker has two years left on his contract and continues to be the protagonist of Spurs. He has scored 18 goals in 29 games in all competitions.
Antonio Conte’s side are fifth in the Premier League, three points behind fourth-placed Manchester United after playing a game more. There was a feeling that Kane should leave the north Londoners if he is to bag any trophies during his career.
McManus has backed those sentiments, advising the England captain to join Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid. He told Football Insider:
“He definitely has to go if he wants to win, it’s as simple as that. What’s the best Tottenham can do this season? They’re still in the FA Cup and could finish in the top four, although I think that’s unlikely.”
McManus went on to explain how Kane could replace 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema at the Santiago Bernabeu:
“Maybe Real Madrid is the move. Benzema is fantastic but he’s not getting any younger and Kane would score over there for fun.”
Kane was at Tottenham his entire career, rising through the youth ranks and becoming their talisman. Spurs fans may be more accepting of the England forward going to Madrid than a Premier League rival.
