Turtle Bay workers in Middlesbrough threatened by robber

Paul Galloway went behind the bar at Turtle Bay in Middlesbrough city center and asked them to hand over the cash from the register.

Teesside Crown Court heard the 49-year-old intimidate the worker with his demand, but told police she never saw a knife despite his threat.

Joseph Hedworth, prosecutor, said the victim noticed Galloway entering the bar on Corporation Road as he didn’t look like their “normal clientele”.

The defendant fled the scene empty-handed when the woman’s two colleagues approached him, he added.

Galloway, of Nelson House, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery at around 10pm on 16 February this year.

Judge Paul Watson KC sentenced Galloway to two years in prison after learning the defendant had been convicted 47 times of 177 offenses, though none of them compared to the attempted robbery.

He said: “They went in there and threatened to take the money from the till or she would be stabbed – she got out of the bar area as soon as possible.”

“As the other two colleagues approached, they changed their minds and left the premises. This was a short-lived offense and no weapon was produced despite you threatening to have one.”
