Tyson Fury in talks about shock summer fight against Demsey McKean in Australia

According to the Australian heavyweight’s manager, Yson Fury is in talks to fight Demsey McKean this summer.
The search for an opponent for Fury continues, with a potential July bout against Andy Ruiz Jr falling through due to financial constraints and Zhilei Zhang also seemingly off the table after Joe Joyce activated his rematch clause to face the Chinese fighter again.
There is still hope that Fury will face Oleksandr Usyk in December as part of Saudi Arabia’s huge plans which see Anthony Joshua also taking on Deontay Wilder on the same night. The winners of those two fights would then go head-to-head next year.
Fury has not fought since December, when he defeated Derek Chisora, and since then talks on an April date for the undisputed fight with Usyk at Wembley have collapsed after weeks of very public negotiations.
Whether that big night of heavyweight boxing takes place in Saudi Arabia later this year remains to be seen, but for now the focus for Fury and his team is on finding an opponent for this summer as time is running out.
The WBC champion is currently in Australia supporting his friend and former world champion Joseph Parker and has claimed he will be traveling around the country scouting possible venues for a fight of his own.
That could well work against undefeated heavyweight McKean, ranked No. 36 by the WBC and promoted by Eddie Hearn. McKean’s manager Angelo Di Carlo revealed negotiations are ongoing for his man to take on Fury Down Under in August.
“A while ago talks started for Demsey to fight Tyson Fury in Australia and I think Demsey is the best option for the Gypsy King,” Di Carlo told News Corp.
“We’re definitely interested in making the fight. We’ve had a good working relationship with Matchroom (McKean’s sponsor) and have great respect for Eddie Hearn (Matchroom boss) but I’ll have further discussions with Fury’s camp and see where that takes us.
“If Tyson Fury wants to fight in Australia the logical option is to fight an Australian fighter and talk to Fury’s people, they don’t want to fight a small heavyweight. Demsey is 1.90m tall and as a southpaw would pose a real challenge for Tyson.
“We’ve been given a possible date for the Fury fight in August, so let’s hope we can make it.”
