UAW extends strike at key GM SUV plant in Texas, just hours after the automaker reported its results

DETROIT – The United Auto Workers union is expanding strikes at a highly profitable full-size SUV plant in Texas General Motorsthe union said Tuesday.

The strike escalation involves about 5,000 workers at GM’s Arlington assembly plant, which makes the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUVs.

The strike came hours after the automaker reported third-quarter earnings results that beat Wall Street expectations.

“Another record quarter, another record year. As we have been saying for months, record profits mean record contracts,” UAW President Shawn Fain said in a statement. “It’s time for GM workers and the entire working class to get their fair share.”
