‘Unforced mistakes’ – Jurgen Klopp slams the Liverpool superstar for needlessly giving the ball away against Chelsea

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was disappointed with the performance of midfielder Thiago Alcantara in the Reds’ clash with Chelsea on January 21. The match between the two struggling Premier League giants at Anfield eventually ended in a goalless draw.

Speaking to the club’s website, Klopp opened up about the importance of possession in order to prolong his good spells in games. He said:

“We were compact, we won really good balls, we gave them problems and from there we have to do better with the ball. That’s possible and it was better than in the last league game that we really kept the ball and continued playing from there.

He added:

“It’s like even Thiago, who’s obviously a great footballer, is giving balls away, unforced errors and things like that. We have to do better than that.”

Thiago was used for the game on the left side of a midfield three. Despite making some impressive passes, he was reckless with the ball and drew the manager’s ire.

Liverpool and Chelsea, who currently sit ninth and tenth in the Premier League, have struggled all season and will be looking to find their form. They are level on points but the Reds are ahead on goal difference and have played a game fewer.

Talking about Liverpool and Chelsea’s position in the table, Klopp said:

“There are a lot of good teams – it’s the strongest league in the world. I don’t think anyone would dispute that. But Chelsea’s situation, OK, I actually have no idea about Chelsea’s situation, to be 100 per cent honest. ”

He added:

“But the fact that we’re not doing as well as we could has nothing to do with the quality of other teams. It’s homemade, not everything [is] our fault, though [it is] still homemade and that’s why we’re where we are. That’s the way it is.”

Liverpool’s goal is to join French giants PSG

PSG have reportedly agreed a deal with Milan Skriniar.
PSG have reportedly agreed a deal with Milan Skriniar.

Reported Liverpool target Milan Skriniar is reportedly moving to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain. According to L’Equipe, the player has reached an agreement to join PSG.

This comes after Liverpool looked at the possibility of signing the player as Virgil van Dijk will miss time with an injury (via 90 mins). Tottenham Hotspur also considered the possibility of signing the player.

However, PSG have long had an interest in the player. Skriniar, who has just six months left on his contract at Inter Milan, could join in the summer for free or outright for a fee of around €10-15m.

It’s believed the Merseyside club were only in the running to sign Skriniar because he was too good a player to give up his contract situation. With him out the window, it remains to be seen whether the Reds will continue to pursue a centre-back in that window.
