After the shocking cancellation of bat girlthe uncertainty of the direction of the DC Universe and a power play for the universe Dwayne The Rock Johnson, james gunn, and Peter Saffron have been brought in to straighten the ship. And they have a tough job ahead of them.
Her first steps focused on clearing out the old universe. Gunn wants all games, movies and television to be tied into a larger canon war of stars. A unique narrative is told in each film, and anything that isn’t part of the main canon is referred to as the DC Elseworlds story, their version of the multiverse. Its DC reboot has echoes of Disney’s eviction war of stars Extended Universe which has upset some fans but ultimately is what it takes for the universe to succeed.

Here’s the schedule of upcoming DCU projects in 2023 and beyond. Dates are subject to change depending on whether projects are brought forward, delayed or canceled altogether.

Harley Quinn: A Very Troubled Valentine’s Day Special (9 February 2023)
To kick off the year for DC, fans of the Harley Quinn animated series are getting a Valentine’s Day special that no doubt celebrates the love between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy. Harley is forced to promise to keep her plans low-key, but that probably won’t happen.
Shazam! wrath of the gods (March 17, 2023)
Shazam (actually it should be called Captain Marvel, but that’s a story for another feature) was a bit of a surprise for DC as the superhero comedy became a real hit with audiences. The likeable character is back Zachary Levi and Ash Angel, and there’s no doubt the stakes will be raised for this second outing. The trailer features the Daughters of Atlas, the villains, and you can watch it right here.
Titans Season 4 Part 2 (April 2023)
Fans of the Titans took a disappointing blow when they heard that season four part two will be the last installment of the Titans story to come out. According to director Nick Copus this will be in at some point April, although no official release date has been given. It’s not James Gunn’s fault as he assumed Twitter to say that the cancellation decision dated before his acquisition of DC.
The Lightning Season 9 (early 2023)
Well, this is probably the last stand of the CW DC TV shows, and nine seasons is a great run. Season 9 will be the end The Lightning TV show, and the movie will pretty much take on that trait and move forward with it on the big screen. Season 9 will have thirteen episodes.
The Lightning (June 16, 2023)
More controversy surrounds the long-awaited feature film debut of The Lightningall due to the bizarre series of events surrounding the behavior of the film’s lead actor Ezra Miller. Michael Keaton will appear in the feature, donning the Batman costume again. The film will be screened alongside this unveiling super girland resets the current DCU ready for James Gunn.
Blue Beetle (August 18, 2023)
This property was originally slated for a TV release, but at the time of writing it looks like this will actually be a theatrical release. This incarnation of Blue Beetle will be in the form of Jaime Reyes, and the teenager will find the alien artifact that will allow him to transform into the bug and fight crime. Taking on the role is Xolo Mariduenaand other names associated with the film George Lopez and Suzanne Sarandon.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (December 25, 2023)
Good, Aquaman Did well at the box office, but of course there was a lot of controversy behind the scenes surrounding the sequel. The whole belongs to amber Situation slowed down production and it appears the film’s schedule was delayed by over a year.
Gotham Knights (2023)
Come hot from video game 2022, Gotham Knights will now be a TV show. Bruce Wayne is dead and without the Dark Knight to protect him, Gotham has become a powder keg. Bruce Wayne’s adopted son Turner Hayes, played by Oscar Morgan, forms an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s villains to clear their parents’ names of Batman’s murder. But District Attorney Harvey Dent, played by Misha Collins, is hot on their heels with the GCPD. This show will air on The CW sometime this year. It is not associated with any continuity at this point.
Doom Patrol Season 4 Part 2 (2023)
Season 4, part 2, no release date yet. This will be the last season.
Harley Quinn Season 4 (2023)
The third season of the animated series Harley Quinn ended with a teaser of a possible fourth season, and Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that the hit animated series will return for a fourth season. A release date has not yet been announced, but the company has said it will be released later this year.
Joker: Folie a Deux (October 4, 2024)
Joker: Folie a Deux will be the sequel to the 2019 film jokera dark and melancholy take on the origins of the comic book supervillain. Lady Gaga was cast as Harley Quinn. director death Phillips has confirmed that this film will be a musical, a new take on a comic book film. The title perfectly reflects the interpretation of mental health, with folie à deux being defined as an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more people. It is not clear how this will manifest itself. Brendon Gleeson will also appear, but his character has not yet been confirmed.
Superman: Legacy (July 11, 2025)
Official beginning of the new DCU’s first chapter, James Gunn has confirmed that he will be writing the film and that it will not be an origin story for the Man of Steel.
The Batman Part II (October 3, 2025)
The second installment in the Batman series by Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson. Very little is known about the project at this point, but it will likely address the Joker aesthetic by the end of the film.
peacemaker Season 2 (on hold)
James Gunn turned on his visor peacemakerturns to his own show HBO Max. Violent, funny and with a sideways glance at superheroes and vigilantes, peacemaker falls into the same category of super fare as The young and Dead Pool but still manages to hit the feelings when it has to be. There is no official release date for this project and it was not mentioned in Gunn’s future plans.
The Penguin (TBA)
After his appearance in The Batmanthere has been much speculation about this Matt Reeves TV spin-off with Oswald Cobblepot, But despite the character’s popularity, the show seems to be stalled in development, and it doesn’t look like we’ll see that show in 2023.
Constantine 2 (TBA)
Eighteen years after the original film came out, Keanu Reeves returns as the demon hunter John Constantine. Frank Lawrence will direct the film and Akiva Goldsman will write the screenplay. Plot details are tight and a release date unclear.
creature commands (TBA)
The unofficial beginning of the first chapter will be an animated series focusing on the fighting creatures of Creature Commandos Nazis. They are brought into the modern age, and James Gunn seeks voice actors to play the characters in live action. It will be seven episodes long.
catfish (TBA)
Instead of a second season for Peacemaker, catfish will be a spin-off of the show that follows Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) who leads an morally dubious government task force. It is written by Christal Henry (Guardian) and Jeremy Carver, the creator of the Doom Patrol TV Shows.
lanterns (TBA)
Several Green Lanterns will be featured in the upcoming one lanterns TV show but it will mostly focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart trying to solve a mystery on Earth. This mystery will no doubt have a major impact on the future of the DCU.
The authority (TBA)
This movie is based on a pretty extreme group of superheroes who think the world is going wrong, so take it upon yourself to fix it. They will be morally gray and were first introduced to DC comics in the 1990s, now as head of DC publishing firm Jim Lee.
paradise lost (TBA)
This TV show focuses on Themiscyria, the home of Wonder Woman but before the hero is born. It will be a game of Thrones Type of political thriller, with a lot of intrigue and power games.
the Brave and the brave (TBA)
This film will introduce the DCU version of Batman and will bring the Bat family with it. It will introduce Bruce Wayne’s son, Damian Wayne, a murderous teenager raised by assassins. He is also the DCU version of Robin. The film is based on the Grant Morrison comics that run about the character.
Booster Gold (TBA)
Booster Gold will revolve around a lesser-known DC hero who was first introduced in the comics in 1986. He’s from the future and he’s a bit of a loser, so he takes some basic future tech and goes back in time and is a hero. James Gunn has stated that this will be an exploration of Imposter Syndrome, but as a superhero.
Supergirl: The woman of tomorrow (TBA)
Based on the Tom King comic miniseries, this sci-fi epic features a very different take on the character than before. Unlike the happy Superman who was raised by a loving family on Earth, this Supergirl is much darker. She has seen everyone she loved killed in horrific ways, making her a more jaded character.
swamp thing (TBA
To wrap up the first part of the first chapter there will be a horror movie centered around the DC villain Swamp Thing. He is a plant/elemental in the DC Universe and has appeared in video games before and had his own TV series called back in 2019 swamp thing.
