In Game 6 of the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, Sri Lanka met the United Arab Emirates at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong on Tuesday. After losing the first game, Sri Lanka bounced back and beat the United Arab Emirates by 79 runs.
After being called on to bat first, the Lankan side scored 152/8 on the board thanks to a brilliant 74 tap from Pathum Nissanka. Karthik Meiyappan scored a hat-trick for the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE batters faltered in the chase as they were bundled to a paltry 73.
With a solid overall performance, Sri Lanka secured their first competition win. They have two points to their credit and are third in the points table. The Lankers are right behind Namibia, who also have two points under their belt. Namibia has a net run rate of 1.277 as opposed to +0.600 for the Lankan side.
The Netherlands, meanwhile, remain at the top of Group A. They won both games and have four points to their credit with a net run rate of +0.149.
The United Arab Emirates have lost both games and are teetering at the bottom of the points table. They meet Namibia in their last game and have a very slim chance of qualifying for the Super 12.
Sri Lanka bounces back and records its first win at the 2022 T20 World Cup
Sri Lanka didn’t have the best start to the 2022 T20 World Cup. They lost to Namibia in their first game but bounced back to win their next game against UAE. Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga each grabbed three wickets for the ankers.
The UAE pulled things back in the second half of the Lankan innings. Karthik Meiyappan became the first UAE bowler to score a hat-trick in T20Is. Zahoor Khan also got involved with a few scalps.
Only three UAE thugs got into double figures when they collapsed in the chase. They now need to pull out their A-game as they face Namibia in their final game.
