Use the dough; look – US baker creates ‘Pan Solo’ bread

A California baker turned Star Wars character Han Solo into a real piece of bread.

he One House Bakery in the San Francisco Bay Area has created “Pan Solo,” a 6-foot bread sculpture of the Star Wars hero, played by Harrison Ford, as he appeared after being frozen in carbonite in The Empire Strikes Back .

Hanalee Pervan and her mother Catherine Pervan, co-owners of the Benicia bakery, spent weeks shaping, baking and assembling the life-size sculpture out of wood and two types of dough, including a type of yeast-free dough with a higher sugar content that will take longer.

The two worked nights after day-to-day business was done. The lovingly designed details show Han Solo’s tortured face and his hands straining to stretch them out.

Hanalee Pervan admitted she may have been obsessed with the project.

“Mom made me stop because I was obsessed with lips,” she told the New York Times. “She was like, ‘You have to go away.'”

The creation of Pan Solo is particularly significant, she told the newspaper, because she contracted Covid-19 in January 2021 and lost much of her sense of smell and taste.

“So it’s really important to find joy in a different part of food,” she said.

The sculpture is now on display outside of the bakery, about a half-hour drive north of San Francisco.

Pan Solo is the bakery’s entry to the annual Scarecrow Contest on downtown Benicia’s Main Street.

The public can vote for their favorites from more than two dozen creations submitted by local businesses.

The Pervans, who are big sci-fi and fantasy fans, took part in another Star Wars-themed creation in 2020, starring the Mandalorian and Baby Yoda.

Unfortunately, Pan Solo won’t last forever. The dough is eventually composted, not eaten. Use the dough; look – US baker creates ‘Pan Solo’ bread
