Ville Platte Man Killed in Crash After Fleeing Traffic Stop

EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KPEL News) – A man from Ville Platte died in a fatal crash after refusing to stop for Ville Platt police.

Gary Macneil Sims, 41, of Ville Platte, was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry believed to have belonged to a woman who had reported hers being taken without permission. When the police tried to stop, Sims sped off and the police began a pursuit.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the Camry exited LA 10 near Pelican Road. Sims lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over several times before crashing into a utility pole.

Sims was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was thrown from the vehicle. However, due to the extent of his injuries, a toxicological study could not be carried out.

The crash is being investigated by State Police Force I.

In all, Troop I investigated 48 fatal crashes, resulting in 54 deaths this year.
